NARSTCO acquired by RailWorks Corp.

Koppers will pick up and dispose crossties for a new Class 1 operator.

RailWorks Corp., a rail track construction and maintenance services provider, has finalized an agreement to acquire NARSTCO, the leading manufacturer of steel ties and turnout sets.

Based in Midlothian, Texas, NARSTCO was founded in 1996 and is a supplier of Class 1, shortline railroads and industrial rail customers, providing cost-effective and durable steel crossties and turnout sets.

NARSTCO ties are made from recycled steel, which RailWorks said erase the need for creosote, spikes, gauging, anchors and tie plates. Steel ties from NARSTCO last longer, are easier to ship and are simple to install. Officials said such qualities lead to lower life-cycle costs for customers. NARSTCO has approximately 90 employees at its U.S. facilities.

NARSTCO will continue operating independently and collaborating with its current customer base which includes end users, contractors and engineering firms, RailWorks said. Anthony Musa will remain CEO of NARSTCO.
