RailWorks Corp., a rail track construction and maintenance services provider, has finalized an agreement to acquire NARSTCO, the leading manufacturer of steel ties and turnout sets.

Based in Midlothian, Texas, NARSTCO was founded in 1996 and is a supplier of Class 1, shortline railroads and industrial rail customers, providing cost-effective and durable steel crossties and turnout sets.

NARSTCO ties are made from recycled steel, which RailWorks said erase the need for creosote, spikes, gauging, anchors and tie plates. Steel ties from NARSTCO last longer, are easier to ship and are simple to install. Officials said such qualities lead to lower life-cycle costs for customers. NARSTCO has approximately 90 employees at its U.S. facilities.

“NARSTCO has an outstanding reputation throughout the industry for superior products, dedication to customer needs and great field service,” said Kevin Riddett, CEO of RailWorks.

“The combination of NARSTCO and RailWorks represents two leaders joining forces to bring industry-leading value to our customers through our comprehensive network of strategically located offices.”

NARSTCO will continue operating independently and collaborating with its current customer base which includes end users, contractors and engineering firms, RailWorks said. Anthony Musa will remain CEO of NARSTCO.

“NARSTCO is very excited to be a part of the RailWorks family,” Musa said. “NARSTCO’s high-quality steel ties and turnouts, along with RailWorks superior service and vast network of connections, represents a growth opportunity for NARSTCO.”
