RailWorks reorganizes track leadership team; hires new execs

RailWorks Corp. is splitting its rail construction and maintenance business into two divisions – Large Projects and Track Maintenance and Services Group.

“With this structure, we will be able to put forth to the market a unified approach in bidding and executing on large projects. All of this, in turn, will solidify our reputation as an industry leader and a respected company to customers, partners and future employees,” Kevin Riddett, RailWorks CEO, said in a written statement.

John Young, who has been with RailWorks since 2014, was named president of the Large Projects division.  The Large Projects division will focus on the execution and pursuit of large- scale track construction and signal projects for railroad and transit customers across North America, according to a written statement from the company.

Richard Carney, a 30-year railroad industry veteran who joined RailWorks in 2000, will lead the new Track Group as executive vice president, responsible for growing the company’s regional and maintenance branch business in the United States and Canada and the RailWorks Maintenance of Way division.

In addition:

  • Jason Lauffer, who joined RailWorks in 2017 as vice president of business development, was promoted to chief strategy officer;
  • Chris Maynard is joining joined RailWorks’ company HSQ Technology as senior vice president, based in Northern California. Maynard is a 20-year veteran of Siemens Mobility;
  • Glenn Hartrick, who joined RailWorks in 2010, has been promoted to vice president, procurement.

Privately held RailWorks was founded in 1998. The company has worked on some of the higher profile jobs in the industry, including the Bergen Street Signal modernization project for the New York City subway; trackwork at Norfolk Southern’s intermodal facility in Birmingham, Ala.; track upgrades under the Chicago Transit Authority Loop Renewal Project; and a seven-year deal to carry out upgrades across the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) network. Railworks also operates a number of subsidiaries and brands in the rail industry, including steel tie giant NARSTCO and L.K.Comstock, an installer of communications and electrical systems for transit systems and railroads.
