LOS ANGELES –– Southern California’s Metrolink will use a $1.3 million federal grant for the development and demonstration of a track intrusion detection system that it said not only will improve the safety of its riders and crew, but also directly benefit pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and everyone else who interacts with the regional/ commuter rail system.

SAN CARLOS, Calif. ––Caltrain, with partners Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and Balfour Beatty, have energized and tested the OCS (overhead catenary system) on the entire 51-mile Caltrain Electrification Project between San Francisco and San Jose. The next step is testing the system’s Stadler Rail-built EMUs (electric multiple-units) at maximum operating speed and prepare for electrified revenue service, expected to commence in September 2024.
TAUNTON, Mass. – Construction on the South Coast Rail project between Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts is nearing completion. Once that occurs, safety testing can begin.
NEW YORK CITY – Under the Re-NEW-vation program, the MTA upgraded, cleaned, and inspected the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica-Van Wyck stations in Queens.
WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. – After a 4.8 earthquake, Amtrak implements speed restrictions and performs track inspections. CSX inspected bridges and related structures.
CHICAGO – Metra on April 3 detailed its construction program for 2024, covering station, track, road crossing, bridge, and signal/communications improvement projects along the Chicagoland commuter railroad’s 11 lines totaling nearly 500 route-miles. In addition

SAN CLEMENTE – Two months after a landslide halted passenger service at Mariposa Point, OCTA announces the completion of a catchment wall has allowed regular passenger service to resume.
BOSTON – After a four-day closure, MBTA crews were able to complete track work that allowed for the removal of speed restrictions along the Orange Line.
SAN FRANCISCO – In an effort to build 19 canopies at its stations, BART installs a second canopy at Embarcadero Station.
ORANGE COUNTY – Crews finished work on the 200-foot-long catchment wall that will protect the rail right of way in San Clemente. This comes after a landslide caused passenger service to halt in January.
DALLAS – Over the weekend of March 23rd-25th, both DART and the NTTA have agreed to an overnight closure of the DNT to allow for construction on the DART Silver Line Regional Rail Project.
BOSTON –– MBTA announced last week that it will have a series of transit and commuter line maintenance shutdowns during April.
