Tracks between San Juan
Capistrano and Oceanside, Calif., remain closed due to mudslides. Trains are
only operating as far south as Laguna Niguel. Metrolink is continuing
to provide bus transportation between Oceanside and Laguna Niguel.
Los Angeles’ Metro will
hold a Community Open House on December 1, in the City of Hawthorne, Calif., to
update the community on various proposed sites for a maintenance facility
selected for environmental review as part of the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor
Project light rail line.
Saving time, money and
being more environmentally friendly just got easier now that Metrolink in the
Los Angeles area has implemented a BETA launch of its new, mobile Website.
Customers can visit Metrolinktrains.com from their web-enabled cellular devices
and they will automatically be directed to the new mobile site.
The well-known telephone
number 1.800.COMMUTE, funded by Caltrans for transportation information in Los
Angeles County, is being discontinued. Metro will now provide bus and rail
information through a new easy-to-remember number 323.GO.METRO.
Los Angeles area Metro
Blue Line passengers will experience travel delays of up to 40 minutes for three
weekends beginning November 5 due to construction of the Expo light rail line,
which will connect with the Metro Blue Line in downtown Los Angeles. Metro will
provide bus shuttle service between the Washington Station and the 7th
St./Metro Center Station. Special bus service begins Friday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m.
Parsons is pleased to
announce that the Southern California Regional Rail Authority, the governing
board of Metrolink, recently awarded Parsons a $120-million contract to design,
procure, and install Positive Train Control technology on Metrolink’s 512-mile
regional commuter rail system.
Los Angeles-area Metro
officials applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation announcement of a low-interest
loan of $546 million for the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor project,
representing the largest public works investment in South Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Metro will
hold four community meetings beginning October 20 to update the public on the
South Bay Metro Green Line Extension project. The purpose of these meetings is
to seek public comments and input as the environmental process continues for
extending rail service farther into the South Bay to improve mobility in
southwest Los Angeles County.

minutes for the next two weekends beginning this Friday night, August 13, due
to construction of the Expo light rail line, which will connect with the Metro
Blue Line in downtown Los Angeles. Special Metro Bus bridge service will
parallel the train route during the construction work.
Railroad maintenance
activities are planned at Batavia Street between Angus and Walnut Avenue
in the City of Orange, Calif., starting on Friday, August 20, at 8:00 p.m., and
continuing until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21. No service delays expected.
Beginning at 8:00 p.m. on
Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25, the Los Angeles Metro Blue Line
Florence Station will be closed due to systems maintenance and track replacement
at the Florence Avenue crossing. Metro customers will experience up to 20
minutes delays between the Florence and Firestone stations.

Los Angeles Metro has begun
to replace 20 aging traction power substations and electrical support systems
on the Metro Blue Line with a grant of $71 million provided by the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The Los Angeles Metro
Gold Line Eastside Extension Project was presented with the 2010 Outstanding
Project of the Year Award by the Underground Construction Association of
Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration at the North American Tunneling
Conference held June 20 in Portland, Ore.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, said: "Los Angeles
County received a double dose of good news June 4 from Washington, which I find
very encouraging. Senator Barbara Boxer said that the Obama Administration is
accelerating consideration of the subway extension project to Westwood by
having the Federal Transit Administration weigh our bid for federal funding for
the entire nine-mile segment rather than break it up in three phases. That’s
significant because it means when federal funding is secured we can build the
entire project at once, which would greatly accelerate the completion schedule
and help reduce costs because we beat inflation.
The Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) invites the public to a new
community meeting on Monday, June 7, to discuss alignment options for tunneling
between the Wilshire/Rodeo and Century City Stations now being examined as part
of the Westside Subway Extension Project environmental study now under review.
The Los Angeles County
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors adopted a $3.8-billion
budget for Fiscal Year 2010-11. The spending plan is $47 million less than the
current Metro budget but still advances a variety of transportation
improvements for the region including a spate of new highway and transit
building projects. These are funded largely with federal stimulus funds and the
new Measure R transit sales tax.

on May 19 at Metro Headquarters next to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. The
public can view copies of the budget proposal at Metro.net or request a copy.
Metro directors will consider adopting the budget for the fiscal year beginning
July 1, 2010, at their May 27 meeting.
