HAMILTON, Ontario – Metrolinx has given an update on the progress on the Hamilton LRT.

Metrolinx has given an update on the progress on the Hamilton LRT. According to the agency, crews have started relocating water mains and part of an enabling works program as well as cleared a path for “larger procurement efforts and more significant construction to take place.”

The LRT design refinement includes shifting the LRT route from “the previous LRT-only bridge onto Main and Dundurn Streets and shifts the access to the OMSF from the busy Longwood Road to Frid Street.” In addition, it shifts the Dundurn LRT stop closer to the Innovation District on Dundurn Street. As well, there will be future highway widening and reconstruction of the Main Street bridge over Highway 403, reconstruction of Main Street bridge over CP tracks, reconstruction of Highway 403 ramps, and reconstruction of Frid Street, which includes full roadway and utility replacement.

Metrolinx believes this refinement will allow for more positive outcomes for the community which include environmental sustainability, a reconstruction of old infrastructure, and the realization of a two-way conversion of Main Street.
