TORONTO – Metrolinx gives a look into the progress of its Eglinton Crosstown LRT project.

Metrolinx gives a look into the progress of its Eglinton Crosstown LRT project. According to the agency, the route spans 19km with 25 stations and stops, and it will “make commutes up to 60% faster than before.” The Crosstown LRT will connect GO Train lines with 54 bus routes and 3 TTC subway stations.

The Oakwood Station is underground at Oakwood Avenue and Eglinton Avenue West, and it is located on the western side of the project’s route. This station is the only one “located directly at a T-intersection, making it visible to people traveling northbound on Oakwood Avenue.” It has two entrances, one at the northern end of Oakwood Avenue and a second entrance on the south side of Eglinton Avenue. It is also “one of only three mined stations on the line and was the first site in Canada to use an overhead ‘gantry’ crane which operated directly over the site on a custom-built frame, due to its small neighborhood footprint.”

Metrolinx released a one-minute video taking a look at the station:

The station also features an art display in the main entrance. The art display is titled “Assembly with Colour, Rhythm and Form” by Ontario artist Nicholas Pye. Pye said that the art display “not only recalls points of intersection on a transit map, but also speaks to the diverse and rich cultural mosaic that defines the character of Oakwood Village.”
