LIRR installing bridges on Long Beach Branch






There will be no train
service along the Long Beach Branch January 23-24 and January 30-31 due to the
installation of two new MTA Long Island Rail Road bridges over Powell Creek and
Hog Island Channel. Buses will serve LIRR customers between Long Beach and Valley
Stream on both weekends. Regular weekday train service will not be affected by
the project.

Report: 70 percent of Metra bridges need upgrades

Seventy percent of Metra
bridges and 42 percent of CTA bridges are past their "useful life,"
according to a preliminary report presented to the RTA board Nov. 19, the Chicago
Daily Herald
reports. A final report is expected in January, along with a plan

expected to bring two contracts before the Board of Estimates Nov. 18 cementing
its two-year-old accord with CSX Transportation under which the railroad will

the Warren, Ohio, Tribune Chronicle. What’s going to be done locally includes
bridge replacement and other projects necessary to provide the vertical
clearance to allow train cars hauling two shipping containers stacked on top of
one another.

NJDOT to replace NJ Transit bridges

The New Jersey Department
of Transportation will be closing Sixth Street in Newark as construction
progresses on a project to replace the Third Street, Fifth Street, Sixth
Street, Seventh Street and Roseville Avenue bridge decks over the NJ TRANSIT
Morristown line in Newark, the Star Ledger reports.

 

Funding for two upstate New York rail bridges ready


Funding for two area
bridge projects is now in place, according to state Sen. James Seward,
R-Milford, local newspapers report. Work is expected to begin shortly on both
the Pony Farm Road Bridge in Oneonta, N.Y., and the Brooker Hollow Road Bridge
in East Worcester, N.Y., Seward said in a media release.
The projects each have an
estimated cost of about $600,000.
