ONTARIO – Metrolinx will add a second track and west platform, among other improvements, to its Aurora GO Station as part of its GO Expansion program.

Metrolinx announced in a news release that it is starting construction this month at its Aurora GO Station. As part of its efforts to boost services for riders, Metrolinx is to build “amenities at the station that will allow for better service and easier access for customers.”

Within its overall GO Expansion program, Metrolinx will be installing a second track to enable two-way train service at the station and along the Barrie Line. Additionally, it will construct a new west platform with “barrier-free connections as well as pedestrian tunnels.” These pedestrian tunnels were built ahead of this current project, but these will be used to connect with the new west platform. There will also be a new passenger pick up and drop off area as well as a new exit at Berczy Street. Through these improvements, Metrolinx hopes for better passenger access and traffic flow.

In its statement, Metrolinx says it “recognizes that Aurora GO Station is a provincial heritage property of significance as well as a federal heritage railway station,” and that it “ensures all improvements being done along the rail corridor and surrounding areas will maintain the integrity of the station building and preserve its heritage.”
