Work will be done on the new pedestrian underpass at the Santa Clara, Calif., station. The underpass will connect the north- and southbound platforms, allowing two trains to pass through the station at the same time and improving safety for pedestrians in the station. Passengers at the station are boarding the train from a temporary platform. The temporary platform will be in use for approximately six months. Scheduled train stops at the station will not be affected by the construction. Tickets can still be purchased at the existing ticket vending machines. The work is part of an 18-month station improvement project that will add a new wider, longer center-boarding platform and extend the southern platform 150 feet. Work continues on a VTA project that will improve safety at eight grade crossings in Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto. Sept. 27-30, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 4 a.m., crews will work at Mary Avenue crossing in Sunnyvale and at the Castro Street crossing in Mountain View. Sept. 26-30, crews will replace cross ties and resurface the tracks between the Millbrae and Hayward Park stations. On Sept. 24 and 25, crews will weld the tracks and replace rails between the San Jose Diridon station and the Tamien station. |
