BALTIMORE - The MDOT MTA released its Purple Line newsletter for May 2026. It includes construction updates and an interview with Maryland Transit Solutions Public Information Coordinator Chris Stokes.

In the May 2026 newsletter (reproduced below), Purple Line Senior Project Director for MTA Ray Biggs II emphasized the 16 miles of bike lanes and trails that connect to infrastructure as part of National Bike Month for May. The Purple Line light rail vehicles (LRVs) feature “easy boarding and onboard bike storage,” says Biggs. Additionally, the week of May 4 was National Small Business Week. The Maryland Department of Transportation’s Purple Line Small Business Grant program announced $600,000 in awards across the alignment.

Construction across the Purple Line is almost 90% complete, according to the newsletter. Throughout the summer, crews will work to complete installation of signage, stairs, canopy installations, and Art in Transit components. On May 7, track installation was completed, and Maryland Governor West Moore toured the future Purple Line 16th Street – Woodside Station, as reported by RT&S. Detailed construction updates in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties can be found in the newsletter below.
