SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Transit Authority starts summer construction with the S-Line streetcar extension and 2100 south grade crossing rebuild.

UTA says its maintenance and construction plan for 2026 “focuses on keeping lines in a state of good repair,” according to the release. The projects detailed below focus on upgrading the current infrastructure by performing necessary maintenance and repairs.

Starting May 26 and running through July 28, temporary lane impacts will occur at Simpson Avenue and 1100 East during the first phase of the S-Line Extension project. Crews will extend the line an estimated one quarter-mile and build a new station near Highland Drive and Simpson Avenue. This new station will serve the Sugar House business district and University of Utah Sugar House Health Center. The project is expected to be finished fall 2027.

Crews have also begun working on a rebuild of 2100 South grade crossing. This work will take place through June 20 and include rail replacement and upgrades to infrastructure. Other projects include the 600 South Grade Crossing that will take place July 5 to 11, during which time news will rebuild track. From July 25 to August 15, crews will clean ballast, realign and resurface track, and replace worn rails at the East 9th Avenue Curves SGR.
