The northbound platform at the Santa Clara, Calif., Station will be demolished this week. All passengers will board the train from a temporary platform. Passengers are asked to observe all posted signs and follow direction from identified ambassadors in the station. The temporary platform will be in use for approximately six months.

The work is part of an 18-month station improvement project that will add a new wider, longer center-boarding platform and extend the southern platform 150 feet. A new pedestrian underpass will connect the two platforms, allowing two trains to pass through the station at the same time and improving safety for pedestrians in the station.

Scheduled train stops at the station will not be affected by the construction. Tickets can still be purchased at the existing ticket vending machines.

Work continues on a VTA project that will improve safety at eight grade crossings in Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Palo Alto. Aug. 22-26, crews will work at Mary and Sunnyvale avenues. Work will include grading, trenching, pouring new concrete and installing new pedestrian gates.

Boarding platform C at the San Jose Diridon Station will be closed Friday, Aug. 20-21 for the installation of new visual message signs. The new signs will allow two lines of text to be displayed. During the work, temporary signs will direct passengers to the correct boarding platform.

Aug. 22-26, crews will replace crossties on the tracks between the Millbrae and Hayward Park stations. Aug. 20-23, crews will replace rails on the tracks between Burlingame and San Mateo stations. Crews will perform additional work installing track panels and spikes from Monday, Aug. 23-26.

Aug. 22-26, crews will weld and resurface the tracks between the Belmont and California Avenue stations. On Aug. 22, crews will weld the tracks near the San Jose Diridon station.
