| UP making major investments in track in Wisconsin, Nebraska |

Union Pacific will improve Wisconsin and Illinois' transportation infrastructures by investing nearly $15 million to improve the freight rail line that runs from Milwaukee, Wis., to Chicago, Ill. Work on the more than 75-mile stretch of railroad track began April 23 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-December. The project includes removing and installing 111,200 ties, spreading 41,500 tons of rock ballast to reinforce the roadbed and replacing 94 grade crossing surfaces. Also, Union Pacific is investing more than $4 million to improve the rail line that runs from near Hudson, Wis., to near Menomonie Jct., Wis. Work on the more than 16-mile stretch of railroad track began August 1 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-December. The project includes removing and installing 16 miles of rail, replacing 26 grade crossing surfaces and installing six switches. In Nebraska, UP is investing more than $2 million to improve the rail line from Lexington, Neb., to near Gothenburg, Neb. Work on the project covering a 31-mile stretch of railroad track began October 9 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-December. The project includes removing and installing more than 12,000 ties. |
