SAN FRANCISCO – BART will develop the area around Lake Merritt BART station with housing, office, and retail space over multiple phases.
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) reports phase 1.1 will break ground this year. This entails constructing a 97-unit senior affordable housing building on an existing parking lot. To allow for this Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project, BART says it “will no longer offer Reserved Parking starting June 1.” Information on daily fee parking and availability can be found on the website here.

The project is part of both the Lake Merritt Specific Plan and BART’s Strategic Plan. BART states in its Strategic Plan, it “will promote transit ridership and enhance the quality of life by encouraging and supporting transit-oriented development within walking distance of BART stations.”
