DENVER – RTD’s Coping Panels Project that began in April 2023 has wrapped up weeks ahead of schedule.

The project sought to repair the caps of retaining walls between Denver and lone Tree along I-25 and was originally slated to finish up in September 2024. However, RTD has reported the equipment has been removed, and the light rail trains have commenced double-track operations.

The project began on April 3, 2023 with repairs made to coping panels along the retaining walls between I-25 Broadway Station and Lincoln Station. These panels were reinforced to be stronger and more weather-resistant. RTD says the work had to take place in warm weather, and it had come up with a two-year timeline for the project. In 2024, the project contract “added extra work crews to expedite the repairs, resulting in the completion approximately three weeks ahead of schedule.”

While the project has wrapped and operations have resumed, there are still temporary speed restrictions in place along the Southeast Corridor. Over the summer, the single tracking of light rail trains caused the most travel delays over the summer. Light rail service on the E, H, and R lines will operate under its current schedule through September 29th.
