SEATTLE - Sound Transit and partners celebrate the beginning of heavy construction on the Kent Station Parking and Access Improvements project.

According to the release from Sound Transit, the project is expected to be completed in 2027 and includes the construction of a $62 million garage with more than 400 stalls for its customers who ride the Sounder S Line and Sound Transit Express and King County Metro services in Kent.

Kent Mayor Dana Ralph said, “Given the growth we are experiencing, this project will provide a needed increase in access to Sounder, the region and all the economic opportunities it contains. . . It’s great to see these investments in transit access begin to come to fruition.”

Sound Transit Deputy CEO Terri Mestas said, “Giving people more affordable access to regional transit benefits us all. . . This project helps cement Kent’s role as a regional connection to the destinations where we live, work and play.”

The bus layover facility will have electric charging stations for King County Metro. In 2021, the City of Kent completed pedestrian crossing work at 2nd Avenue North and James Street and added 14 new smart bicycle lockers.
