CHICAGO - Metra's Electric line will be shut down for two separate weekends in December to allow for South Shore Line expansion construction.
During the weekends of December 7th-8th and December 14th-15th, train service will terminate and originate from 18th Street Station, and bus service will take place between Millennium and 18th. More detailed information for Metra passengers regarding alternate modes of transportation and altered schedules can be found here.
The work comes as part of the $650 million expansion of NICTD’s South Shore service and will work to expand capacity “through the area north of 18th Street to accommodate additional South Shore trains.” Crews will make alignments and upgrades to the track and catenary system.
