DETROIT - Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Senate Bill 271 on November 28th.
According to the report from ASLRRA, the bill is a clean energy and climate action bill that allows ties to be burned as a renewable energy source in existing permitted biomass combustion facilities.
The ASLRRA states it has advocated for used ties to be burned as an alternative energy source, thereby “keeping them out of landfills and helping support national clean energy goals.” The bill establishes a 100% clean energy standard for Michigan. By 2030, 50% of Michigan’s energy will come from renewable sources. By 2040, that number is expected to rise to 60%.
