PORTLAND, Ore. - On April 15th, TriMet began the first phase of a major renovation on the NE 82nd Ave MAX Station. Crews will construct a temporary MAX platform that will be open to the public this summer.
TriMet states this temporary platform construction is part of its efforts to improve one of its oldest stations. The temporary platform will be on the west side of the station connected by a walkway and will include lighting, signage, and a weather shelter. It is expected to open in June. This temporary platform will ensure no impact to service to MAX Blue, Green, or Red Line service during construction of the NE 82nd Ave MAX Station. This demolition and construction of said station is expected to last through the end of the year and will take place at the track level between UP tracks and I-84.
The NE 82nd MAX Station will see new concrete surfacing, a refurbished shelter, updated lighting and signage, a modern guardrail to replace old barriers, removal of an inoperable mobility-device lift building, a rebuilt stairway, and a second shelter to match the original. Additionally, the mural by local artist Alex Chiu, pictured below, will be preserved.

TriMet says this project will help connect “East Portlanders to jobs, education, healthcare and services” as well as “help revitalize the station while laying the groundwork for future development and investment in the surrounding community.”
