According to SEPTA, during this closure, crews will work on track and power maintenance as well as making upgrades at stations. Routes [T1] 10, [T2] 34, [T3] 13, [T4] 11 and [T5] 36 will not operate during the month. Service will begin and end at 40th and Market Streets. During this time, PennDOT will work on the tunnel located under the Schuykill River.

Track and power maintenance include replacing worn track, cleaning out pipes, drains, and vent wells, and replacing overhead contact wire. Additionally, crews will perform maintenance on the signal system, and remove graffiti, paint, and upgrade lighting at stations.

SEPTA General Manager Scott A. Sauer said, “The blitz gives our crews the opportunity to tackle construction, maintenance and safety improvement work in a concentrated period of time to reduce the number of outages throughout the year.”
