28-Car Derailment in North Carolina; CSX Investigating Cause (UPDATED 8/20)

ENFIELD, N.C. - CSX is temporarily rerouting trains after a derailment occurred on Sunday, August 17 in Enfield, North Carolina.
In a Customer Advisory, CSX stated 28 cars derailed this past weekend in North Carolina, and its teams are currently working to restore operations. No injuries were reported, and “no hazardous materials were released,” according to the Class I. As of reporting, it is currently conducting an investigation as to what caused the derailment.
No timeline has been established as to when operations will return. CSX states it understands “the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this process.’
AUGUST 20 UPDATE
CSX announced its Engineering teams were working to restore the track, and services were set to resume by 9 p.m. with full restoration by midnight on August 18. Despite this, CSX says “some delays may still occur as operations return to normal.”
