BALTIMORE - The MDOT MTA released the August 2025 Purple Line newsletter. It includes construction updates, a business spotlight, and a testing update.

The newsletter (below) details the updates made on the Purple Line progress in Baltimore. Crews have reportedly finished blasting 150 feet below ground at Bethesda Station to make way for a new elevator. This will “ensure full accessibility” for those traveling between the Purple Line Bethesda Station and the WMATA Red Line Station.

Montgomery County

Crews have worked to lay concrete ties in the center of University Boulevard near New Hampshire Avenue and have installed track at the Wayne Avenue and Fenton Street intersection. Additionally, crews began work on the Lyttonsville Maintenance Facility interior over the summer. Construction on ballast track continues near Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase.

Prince George’s County

The newsletter shows the work taking place near New Carrollton involving embedded track and work on the overhead catenary system (OCS) poles and wires. At the New Carrollton Station, the Art in Transit element is being installed. Crews are installing direct fixation track in the center of University Boulevard near the University of Maryland. Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) are currently stored at the Glenridge Operations and Maintenance Facility. Half of the 28 total LRVs have been delivered so far.
