BALTIMORE - The MDOT MTA released its Purple Line newsletter for October 2025. It includes construction updates, a business spotlight, and a message from Purple Line Senior Project Director Ray Biggs, II.

In the newsletter (below), Senior Project Director Ray Biggs II writes that crews have made steady progress on the Purple Line. Crews continue to install hundreds of Overhead Catenary System (OCS) poles, install track, and complete station construction.

Montgomery County

In Montgomery County, the entrance to the Long Branch Community Center is now open, and the driveway connects to a signalized intersection at Barron Street. At the Silver Spring Station, crews continue to install rail leading up to the top level of the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center. Here, MDOT MTA says the future embedded track will cross the intersection of Bonifant Street and Ramsey Avenue. Over in Lyttonsville, ballasted track has been installed, and OCS poles and wire installation will soon follow.

Prince George’s County

100% of rail has now been installed in Prince George’s County, marking a milestone moment for MDOT MTA. As well, the westbound platform of Baltimore Avenue-UMD Station has embedded track and a canopy structure for waiting passengers. Over at the intersection of 66th Avenue and Riverdale Road, crews have installed embedded track. Additionally, they have placed concrete for the finalized intersection.
