CHICAGO - The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) announced it has completed the 2025 Refresh & Renew Program.
The Refresh & Renew Program was created in 2019 as a way to keep stations in a state of good repair, says CTA. This includes focused maintenance on its facilities to improve the safety and security of the stations and passengers. Stations along the Red, Brown, Blue, Green, Pink, Purple, and Orange Lines received work throughout the year.
Crews have completed around $6.5 million in maintenance and repairs since the spring. In 2025, crews installed more than 5,000 lightbulbs, replaced 1,100 boards on platforms, secured 1,200 feet of blue tactile paneling along platform edges, and used more than 1,680 gallons of paint at its stations. Additionally, crews performed deep clean power washing, updated old or damaged signs, repaired utility and plumbing lines, and removed outdated fixtures and equipment.

The CTA also says it will announce the details of its 2026 Refresh & Renew program soon. Similar to 2025, it will begin in the spring. Since 2019, the CTA has invested more than $16.6 million in the program.
“The impactful work done by CTA crews as part of our 2025 Refresh & Renew program has been a multimillion-dollar investment in our riders’ travel experience that brightens, renovates and modernizes our facilities,” said CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen. “I look forward to the work that will be done in 2026, as we continue to enhance our system and look towards new, innovative ways of welcoming and serving our riders.”
