LAS VEGAS - Union Pacific's Engineering team in Las Vegas celebrated 25 years of injury-free work.

The area is one of the largest signal territories in UP’s network, according to the release. The crew works to maintain signal operations along 700 miles of track from Barstow, California to Nephi, Utah. Aside from the geographical size of the territory, crews must also deal with extreme heat, monsoons, and extremely cold Utah winters. The territory includes five UP subdivisions and rail yards. With all of these challenges, the UP team says its safe service comes from bimonthly safety meetings, constant communication, and collaboration.

Manager-Signal Maintenance, Engineering Mario Garcia said, “We want to get everyone home safe, the same way they came. . . We assist one another. That goes a long way.”

Signal maintenance foreperson, Engineering Kye Metcalf said, “The best thing about this group is the way everyone works together. . . Twenty-five years is no small feat. Everyone watches each other’s backs and does a wonderful job caring for one another.”
