YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown & Southern Railroad's Lansingville Yard should be completed in 2025.
The project will seek to improve capacity and service at the facility. It involves constructing a five-track yard that can hold 220 cars. Crews will install around 15,000 feet of track and six turnarounds.
Vice President of Commercial Development and Government Affairs at Midwest & Bluegrass Rail in Kansas City, Mo., Brendan Keener, stated the rail company “planned to move forward with building Lansingville Rail Park.” The Park is a give-track yard that will centralize its storage operation. Keener went on to express MB Rail’s excitement at this “investment with the support and encouragement of Lake to River. . . Lansingville Rail Park will be a cornerstone of Y&S Railroad’s growth strategy and commitment to fostering commerce and job creation in the Mahoning Valley for years to come.”
According to the report in Business Journal Daily, Y&S Railroad purchased a site next to Lansingville Yard on November 21st from 2057 Poland Avenue LLC for $3.5 million. Kenner said there was “an opportunity to move forward with that site. . . We felt like we couldn’t pass up on the chance to pursue a project there.” This comes one week after the Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a $1.46 million grant to support said project.
Additionally, Keener said they are also interested in working with Lake to River Economic Development to marketing part of the 70-acre site to businesses to establish a base of operations to invest “in the city of Youngstown’s industrial growth.”
