STOCKTON, Calif. - The Yard Area Rail Decongestion and Safety project (YARDS) will rehabilitate and restore railroad yards on five railroads in four states.

The project groups “five components with independent utility into one holding company application,” according to the ASLRRA. OmniTRAX Holdings has combined Alabama & Tennessee River Railway, LLC, Chicago Rail Link, LLC, Illinois Railway, LLC, Newburgh & South Shore Railroad, LLC, and the Stockton Terminal and Eastern Railroad. By doing this, it minimizes any administrative challenges and “maximizes investment.”

The total project cost is $51,194,000. $40,955,000 comes from a CRISI grant with $10,239,000 in a local match. Once the project is complete, there will be reduced greenhouse gas emissions and particulate matter, enhanced service and capacity, and better utilized equipment and crew.
