COLUMBUS, Ohio - Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved more than $1.4 million in rail crossing upgrades across three Ohio counties.
According to PUCO, the Harbor Drive grade crossing in Hamilton County will receive flashing lights and gates from CSX. $562,576 in federal funding will go toward the project.
At Chestnut Street and St. Clairsville Road crossings in Tuscarawas County and at Schumaker Road crossing in Coshocton County, Columbus & Ohio River Railroad Company (CUOH) will install flashing lights and gates. $873,981 in federal funding will go toward these projects.
Additionally, PUCO says in the interest of safety during construction, the local government may seek funding for safety improvements including rumble strips, signage, and illumination. Funding for these improvements comes from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund and will not amount to more than $5,000 per project.
