LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the recipients of the annual Local Grade Crossing Surface Program.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the recipients of the annual Local Grade Crossing Surface Program. 26 projects were awarded around $3 million to “fund highway-railroad grade crossing improvements.” Across these projects, the improvements can include minor repairs to asphalt or installing new track and surfaces. According to Michigan.gov, the program “offers 60% funding for eligible projects, with railroads responsible for the remaining 40% of costs.” Repair work is performed by the railroad companies and contractors “with cooperation for detour routes provided by the local road agencies.” Scheduling construction is also left to the railroad and local road agency.
