The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has announced $30 million in safety improvements to 27 intersections along its Blue Line.

The intersections along the county’s most frequently used light-rail line are set to receive new barriers to enhance pedestrian safety, as well as the addition of new, wider walkways and revamped signage.

The transportation authority will also install pedestrian gates and swing gates at intersections, new walkways will be poured with concrete rather than asphalt and improved accessibility will be offered for customers with disabilities.

LACMTA initially began an overhaul of its Blue Line in January 2014, replacing power stations, overhead power lines, tracks and rail cars and improving station platforms. The work is expected to proceed through fiscal year 2019.

LACMTA’s staff report to the board regarding the project can be found below (see red text).
