QUANTICO, Va. - The Quantico Station Improvements Project was awarded with a Grand Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Virginia (ACEC Virginia).

The $27.5 million Quantico Station Improvements Project was completed in 2025 and includes a new center platform and extended east platform, retaining walls, alignment shifts, upgrades made at Potomac Avenue, and elevator towers and pedestrian bridges. It was tied to a larger third-track expansion project between Arkendale and North Possum Point. STV served as engineer-of-record on the project and provided design and engineering services to modernize the station. Part of its work was to design a 714-foot-long retaining wall to minimize impacts to Marine Corps Base Quantico (MCBQ) and preserve historic structures.

Derek Overstreet, PE, DBIA, vice president and engineering director said, “Quantico Station plays an important role in connecting communities in Virginia, and we approached this project with a responsibility to enhance that experience. . . Seeing this work recognized by ACEC Virginia is incredibly meaningful because it celebrates the collaboration and care that went into every detail.”

In February 2026, the ACEC Virginia Engineering Excellence will hold a gala in Richmond, Virginia. The project team will be recognized for their work on the project.
