Vancouver’s Canada Line to start service August 17

Written by jrood

When it begins service on August 17, SkyTrain's newest line will bring rapid rail service to Metro Vancouver's busiest north-south corridor, linking Downtown to Richmond and Vancouver International Airport. The Line will connect people to dozens of local destinations—and a whole world of travel possibilities beyond.

Canada Line adds 16 new
stations and 19 km (about 12 miles) to the SkyTrain network. Nine stations are
located in Vancouver, with four in Richmond and three on Sea Island serving the
Airport.

From 1:00 p.m. to 9:00
p.m. August 17,  rides will be
free. Regular service begins August 18.

The Canada Line project consists
of:

• An underground
tunnel from Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver going south under
Granville Street, Davie Street, False Creek, and Cambie Street to south of 64th
Avenue;

• An elevated
guideway climbing from south of 64th Avenue across the Fraser River to
Bridgeport Station in Richmond, and continuing west to Sea Island and Vancouver
Airport and south to central Richmond along No. 3 Road;

• A park-and-ride
facility at the Bridgeport Station and bus exchanges at Bridgeport, Marine
Drive and Richmond City Centre Stations; and

All Canada Line stations
are wheelchair-accessible. Every Canada Line train accommodates four
wheelchairs.

Cell phone coverage is
available all along the line, even underground!

Bridgeport Station Park and
Ride has 600 parking stalls available during rush hour for commuters.
