TORONTO – Metrolinx is working on new rail bridges, retaining walls, and noise barriers for three new stations on its Ontario Line.

Metrolinx is currently working on new stations in the Lakeshore East rail corridor on its Ontario Line: the future East Harbour, Riverside-Leslieville, and Gerrard stations. Construction work on the new stations includes new rail bridges, retaining walls, and noise walls. Metrolinx believes that a decade after construction is finished, “almost 30,000 people will live within a 10-minute walk of rapid transit between the three new Ontario Line stations being delivered in this community.”

The new rail bridges shown in the map below will be located at Eastern Avenue, Queen Street at the Riverside-Leslieville Station, at Dundas Street, and at Logan Avenue. These rail bridges will allow for more transit and to improve the flow of traffic. Located in a shared rail corridor, the bridges will accommodate GO and VIA Rail services.

Currently, they need to be replaced to allow for the repositioning of existing GO tracks and for the expansion of GO services. Metrolinx has said that “Ontario Line bridges will be built next to the new GO rail bridges.” The infrastructure should last another 100 years. Metrolinx will begin construction of retaining walls and noise barriers this Summer that extend from Eastern Avenue to east of Pape.

With the construction, Metrolinx has also announced the traffic and transit impacts throughout the summer. According to Metrolinx, the impacts are listed as the following:

  • Eastern Ave is open to traffic between Broadview and Logan this week until the 27th from 7pm to 5am. From the 28th to the 31st, it will be open to traffic from 8pm to 5am.
  • Queen Street is open to traffic between Broadview and Logan over the weekends of Aug. 12th-14th and Sept. 30th to Oct. 2nd.
  • Logan Avenue is open to traffic between Gerrard Street East and Dundas Street East from Aug. 18th-21st. There may be another closure from Aug. 25th to the 28th, depending on the needs of construction and traffic.

From Aug. 12th to 14th and Sept. 3rd to Oct. 8th, Metrolinx will also see transit service changes with detour routes “announced early and posted on the TTC website.”
