TORONTO - Metrolinx has begun major construction on the East Harbour Transit Hub, an interchange station that will be in Toronto's Riverdale neighborhood.

According to Metrolinx, crews have started installing reinforced concrete caissons, building retaining walls, and drilling piles. After, crews “will pour concrete to form the base of the main station building.” Previously, in 2023, work was done to widen the Eastern Avenue bridge. Metrolinxi states that once this bridge is done, it will have six tracks. Two tracks will be on the Ontario Line, and four will be for GO trains.

As a joint initiative between Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, Province of Ontario, and Government of Canada, the East Harbour Transit Hub will be located east of the Don Valley Parkway and will reduce travel times for passengers by connecting the Ontario Line subway and the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines. According to the release, the Hub will include a passenger pick-up and drop-off area, a customer service area, connections to a future Broadview Avenue extension, and a concourse area for transfers between GO transit and the Ontario Line. Additionally, it will have single-train connections to Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Stouffville, Unionville and Markham, Mississauga, Oakville, and Hamilton.
