BALTIMORE - Maryland Transit Administration will host an Industry Day for the Light Rail Modernization Program on Thursday, June 26th.

At the BWI Sheraton, the Maryland Transit Administration will bring together contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants to learn about the project on Baltimore’s Central Light Rail Line. There is also a virtual option if attendees cannot make it in person. Industry Day will give attendees a look at the scope, timeline, and procurement opportunities with a Q&A session to follow.

MTA’s Light Rail Modernization Program includes $1 billion in investments in light rail vehicles, signal systems, track and maintenance facilities, and stations for the Central Light Rail Line. Last year, the USDOT FTA’s Rail Vehicle Replacement program awarded a $213 million federal grant. Funds from the 2025 Moore-Miller transportation budget also provided additional revenue to this investment.

The Maryland Transit Administration says the Light Rail program will be beneficial to the region. These include “increased frequency and reliability of service, faster boarding and reduced travel times, improved accessibility across the system, enhanced traffic safety, improved security measures at transit stations, and refreshed and modern station design features.”

“Advancing this light rail project is not just about building infrastructure – it’s about building opportunity,” said Maryland Transit Administrator Holly Arnold.  “We’re looking for partners who share our commitment to innovation and recognize this project will dramatically improve the transit system used by thousands of Marylanders daily to access jobs, healthcare, education and opportunity.”
