MASSACHUSETTS – The MBTA announced in a press release service changes to their Red, Green, and Orange lines to allow track work to take place.

In its efforts to improve service, the MBTA continues its infrastructure improvements, namely track work to “address and alleviate speed restrictions across the system” on its passenger lines.  Along with the Red, Green, and Orange lines, service changes will occur on the Greenbush, Kingston/Plymouth, and Middleborough/Lakeville lines.

For passengers on the Red Line, a shuttle bus service will run between JFK/UMass and North Quincy Stations on June 13-15, 20-22, and 26-29 starting at 8:45PM. The improvements on this line include a “continued replacement of rail and ties along the Braintree branch”. In addition to the Red Line, the neighboring lines, Greenbush, Kingston/Plymouth, and Middleborough/Lakeville, will undergo service changes as well.

For stops between Braintree and South Station during June 12-16, 19-23, and 26-30, passengers will be able to use shuttle buses starting at 7:30PM. The CapeFLYER will continue normal operations and is not impacted. Service work between Braintree and South Station will continue through the Summer with specific dates announced in the future.

Shuttle buses will replace service on the Green Line between Government Center and Union Square and the Medford/Tufts Stations during June 17-18 and 24-25. Rehabilitation will take place along the Lechmere Viaduct.

The demolition of the Government Center Garage near the Orange and Green Lines continues in Boston from June 12-25. The Orange Line trains will not stop at Haymarket Station during this demolition. Instead, riders are encouraged to stop at North Station or State and walk to Haymarket.

Service on the Green Line between North Station and Government Center will be suspended from June 12-16 and 19-23. Riders will need to walk between the Government Center, Haymarket, and North Stations. Shuttle Bus service will run June 17-18 and 24-25 to replace the trains on the Green Line. “Accessibility vans will also be available on-demand.”

The MBTA encourages riders to sign up for T-Alerts while service work continues.
