CHICAGO - Metra announced its Board of Directors approved a $8.69 million contract to renovate its 115th Street/Morgan Park Station on its Rock Island Line.

The contract was awarded to IHC Construction Companies LLC of Elgin after it had submitted the “lowest responsive and responsible bid for the work.” Metra’s goal was to expend 25% of the contract total using DBE firms, and IHC has committed to meeting that goal. It will do so by using subcontractors including Araiza Corporation, Brandenburger Plumbing, Inc., EOS Mechanical, Inc., Pinto Construction Group, Inc., and Sanchez Paving Company.

As a result, work is expected to begin this year. Crews will replace the platform shelters, resurface the two parking areas, add new lighting, and create a new plaza and sidewalks. Additionally, they will “address stormwater management needs.”
