SEATTLE - Sound Transit is getting closer to completing light rail stations in Kent and has begun testing and operations.

According to the report, a spokesperson from Sound Transit said the Kent Des Moines Station is almost finished with an expected completion date in August. At that time, it will begin “systems testing and simulated service with an opening date (of the Federal Way Link extension) in spring 2026.”

Kent Des Moines Station is one of three new stations on the extension. The other two are Federal Way Downtown Station and Star Lake Station. These stations will connect to other services like Pierce Transit, King County Metro, and ST Express. Currently, Sound Transit is running trains between the Angle lake and Kent Des Moines stations nightly in order to “make adjustments in the overhead power system.” The spokesperson went on to say that Sound Transit is “installing overhead wires on the bridge north of Star Lake Station and soon will tow a rail car to Federal Way to begin testing at the southern end of the alignment.”
