SACRAMENTO - The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) will suspend light rail service on its Green Line beginning June 16th through summer 2026 to allow for major construction in the Railyards.

According to the release, this construction includes a light rail station located at 7th Avenue and Railyards Boulevard. This Green Line service suspension will affect the 7th & Richards/Township 9 and any Green Line stops. In June, track alignment work will begin. Crews will begin construction on the light rail station in October 2025.

SacRT General Manager and CEO Henry Li said, “We are excited to bring a new light rail station to the growing Railyards area, one of the largest urban infill projects in the country. . . While we understand this temporary disruption may inconvenience some riders, the long-term benefits of improved access and connectivity to the Railyards and downtown Sacramento are well worth the investment. We appreciate our riders’ patience and support during this transformative phase.”

President and CEO of the Railyards Denton Kelley said, “We’re thrilled to see transit infrastructure expanding in the Railyards. . . The new light rail station is a key component of our long-term vision to create a connected, accessible, and vibrant district that links Sacramento’s past and future. This progress wouldn’t be possible without SacRT’s partnership.”

The Railyards Project includes “transforming 244 acres of historic land into a vibrant, mixed-use urban district that will double the size of downtown Sacramento.” This includes a live music venue, Kaiser medical center, apartments, and more.
