PHILADELPHIA - SEPTA is still experiencing delays and cancellations due to a fire at Paoli Station last month.

According to the report, SEPTA says its Regional Rail customers are currently impacted by delays and cancellations due to complications from a second fire that occurred at Paoli Station last month. Since that time, it has worked with the FRA and NTSB to “develop and implement enhanced safety and inspection procedures.” The cause of the fire is still unknown as of reporting, and SEPTA has canceled some Regional Rail trips across all of its lines out of “an abundance of caution.”

Its engineering and maintenance teams are currently working to keep the Regional Rail fleet operational and safe. To do so, they are conducting inspections.

SEPTA says it has removed train cars temporarily that are experiencing mechanical issues and is hoping to restore service shortly. Some of SEPTA’s trains are the oldest in the nation and date back to the Nixon Administration, and therefore, they are in need of replacement. The agency says it has plans to replace these with new vehicles as part of its Capital Program, but it will take seven to ten years and $1.7 billion to do so.
