Sound Transit Opens Everett Link Extension Scoping Period
Written by Jennifer McLawhorn, Managing Editor
SEATTLE - Sound Transit invites the public to provide input through August 28 on the Everett Link light rail extension. This is part of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) scoping.

Sound Transit is asking for input on “project purpose and need; alternatives to be studied in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and potential impacts; [and] potential topics to study in the EIS.” The final set of alternatives included in the EIS was decided by the Sound Transit Board in July 2023. All public input gathered will be used to prepare the Draft EIS in coordination with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Expected opening is between 2037 and 2041, with construction expected to begin in 2030.
The Everett Link Extension DEIS is “studying 16 miles of light rail and seven new stations” that connect Snohomish County to the regional light rail network. It will also reportedly connect Everett, unincorporated Snohomish County, and Lynnwood. One of the proposed stations has received funding for planning, but it has not received funding for design or construction. An Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) North is also included in the project.
