RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - STV announced on Aug. 20 the completion of the Moreno Valley/March Field Metrolink Station Improvement Project.
According to STV, it was the lead consultant for $38 million in upgrades on the project. STV’s role included overseeing “project management, design, construction support, and environmental clearance for the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink).” Part of the station’s improvements include extending the original platform to 680 feet in length and adding a second platform to better accommodate Metrolink’s eight-car train length. Crews also rehabilitated 2.7 miles of track “to enable bi-directional service through the station.” This was part of a planned nine-mile double-track corridor that will enhance service reliability and increase frequency.
The upgrades made are part of Metrolink’s Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) program that seeks to enhance its system in time for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics Games in Los Angeles. The project is on the 91/Perris Valley Line (PVL), and STV says it has played a central role in the development of that line since the beginning by working alongside Metrolink and RCTC. In 2016, it worked in collaboration with Metrolink and RCTC on the 24-mile PVL extension, “including the original design of the Moreno Valley/March Field Station and three others along the route.” In addition, STV says it provided design services for the Riverside Downtown Security Operations Control Center that oversees the Metrolink system in that county.
STV vice president and engineering director Andy Sokol said, “By expanding capacity and improving reliability in Moreno Valley, the upgrades help ease commute times and connect residents to opportunity and supports cleaner, more sustainable growth. . . It’s been an honor to partner with RCTC and Metrolink on a project that will help unlock the Perris Valley Line’s full potential, spurring smarter growth and better mobility across the region.”
