PORTLAND, Ore. - TriMet's NE 82nd Ave MAX Station platform is set to reopen as crews begin to complete renovations.
TriMet announced that the final phase of its construction project at NE 82nd Ave MAX Station started this week. The work conducted at the station is part of TriMet’s larger state-of-good-repair efforts to modernize its system. Since the summer, TriMet has worked to renovate the station with riders using a temporary platform in the meantime. As such, the permanent platform will reopen on Friday, December 19 following a six-month closure, says the agency. The temporary stairs at the station will be in use until the station renovation is complete in early 2026.
Since construction is still going on, TriMet reminds its passengers that they will still experience construction noise and activity until the renovations are complete. Additionally, the concrete stairs at the platform is still closed to passengers until the project is fully complete.
The NE 82nd Ave MAX Station opened in 1986 and has “helped anchor TriMet’s transit service through one of Portland’s busiest areas.” Due to its location and passenger ridership, the station is undergoing renovations. Crews are improving the lighting and seating and adding signage and security cameras. TriMet says it is adding a second shelter with another windscreen for protection from the elements. Because TriMet adopted low-floor MAX trains when it stopped using mobility lifts in 1997, crews have also removed an old mobility device lift that was part of the original design.
