BART Continues To Replace Series of Interlockings

SAN FRANCISCO – Crews will work on replacing track switches in Oakland during the weekend of August 17th and 18th.
On June 5th, RT&S reported Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) would start replacing a series of interlockingsbetween its Rockridge, MacArthur, and 19th Street stations. The work that was originally scheduled for the weekend of July 20th-21st was postponed until August.
Crews are working to replace decades-old equipment that has outlived its design. Due to limited space, crews will not be able to use a crane or any other heavy equipment to lift track components. Instead, they will need to transport materials on rail and assemble components manually.

BART reports it will have alternative transportation for passengers during the weekends of August 17th to 18th, September 21st to 22nd, October 19th to 20th, and November 2nd to 3rd. During these weekends, there will be no Red Line service. More information on specific service and schedule impacts can be found here.
