SEPTA Continues 2023 Trolley Tunnel Blitz
Written by Jennifer McLawhorn, Managing EditorPHILADELPHIA – Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority continues its eleventh year of the Trolley Tunnel Blitz with construction work on 22nd Street platform.
SEPTA announces maintenance and construction work on trolley routes 10, 11, 13, 34, and 36. This will continue until Monday, July 24th at 5 a.m. The work includes:
- Replacing “worn track curved rail at various locations” and “four miles of overhead contact wire”
- Removing graffiti
- New paint and lighting at all stations
- Cleaning out “all pipes, drains, and vent wells”
- “demolish and rebuild the eastbound 22nd Street platform”
According to SEPTA General Manager and CEO, Leslie S. Richards, the Trolley Tunnel Blitz allows “crews the opportunity to tackle construction, maintenance, and safety improvement work in a concentrated period of time to reduce the number of outages throughout the year.”
To allow crews to complete maintenance work, “trolley service will begin and end at 40th and Market Streets.” Alternate routes for riders can be found at Market-Frankford Line at 40th Street Station.
