TORONTO – The TTC announced it will resume service along a section of Broadview Avenue after the first phase of its streetcar track renewal finished early.

The TTC announced it will resume service along a section of Broadview Avenue after the first phase of its streetcar track renewal finished early. Regarding the closures caused by construction, Mayor Olivia Chow said these “are disruptive for everyone who relies on the TTC to get around, so I am very pleased that work on this very busy stretch of Broadview Ave. has finished ahead of schedule, and that service can resume. . . Thank you to the TTC crews and engineers for working around the clock throughout summer to complete this work.”

Additionally, Jamaal Myers, TTC Chair commented that he was “pleased that the first phase of streetcar track replacement on Broadview Ave., south of Danforth Ave., has completed ahead of schedule. . . Infrastructure renewal is critically important in keeping our transit system in a state of good repair, so TTC customers have a safe service they can rely on.”

“The return of TTC service on Braodview between Gerrard and Danforth is great news. . . . I’d like to thank residents and businesses for their patience during this important work to renew infrastructure on our local transit routes and help keep Ward 14 moving,” said Councillor Paula Fletcher, Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth.

CEO of TTC, Rick Leary, also expressed his thanks to customers and residents for “their patience and understanding while we carried out this critical work, replacing streetcar tracks on Broadway Ave. between Gerrard St. E. and Danforth Ave., . . . We are now focused on completing the second phase of streetcar track replacement work at Broadview Station, so that regular bus service is operating there again by the fourth week of November.”

The announcement states that 504/505 King/Dundas replacement buses will run between Castle Frank Station and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. As well, service will continue to run until November 19th. This is when the second phase of work at Broadview Station will finish, and “regular bus routes resume.” Currently, Castle Frank Station is not accessible. 504 King and 505 Dundas streetcars will return to Broadview Station early next year, and “remaining Toronto Water and TTC overhead work on Broadview Ave. is complete.”
