Louisville & Indiana Railroad Awarded $6M for Ohio River Bridge

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. - Anacostia Rail Holdings (ARH) has announced that Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC) was awarded a matching $6,492,000 grant to improve the railroad's Clagg lift span in its Ohio River Bridge.
According to the release from ARH, this grant was provided through the U.S. DOT’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure & Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program. Louisville & Indiana Railroad will provide a 50% non-Federal match. The project includes the development, final design, and construction for the Clagg Lift Span improvement of the Fourteenth Street Bridge that connects Louisville, KY and Clarksville, IN. The project will improve safety and the multi-modal transport of goods across the Ohio River.
LIRC President John Goldman stated, “LIRC is grateful for this award which will ensure that our 100-year-old lift span over the Ohio River will remain a key component for our country’s economy for the next 100 years.” Goldman went on to thank Indiana and Kentucky lawmakers as well as the Ports of Indiana, Indiana Economic Development Corporation, the Jeffersonville, IN Mayor’s Office, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and the Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development agency among others.
