COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, or PUCO, approved safety upgrades at rail crossings in two Ohio counties.
At the Kenworth Avenue grade crossing in the city of Hamilton (Butler County), CSX will install lights and gates, with a cantilever in the northwest corner, curbing, and a sidewalk reconnection. This is to take place by October 22, 2025. $463,810 in federal funding will be used for the project.
At the C.R. 108/Richmond Road grade crossing in Cuyahoga County, Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroad (WLE) will install flashing lights and gates by October 22, 2025. $322,454 in federal funding will be used to complete the project.
For the projects, safety improvement costs for rumble strips, signage, and illumination come from the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund. They may not exceed $5,000 per project.
