FRANKFORT, Ky. –– The State of Kentucky this week issued more than $5.6 million in railway infrastructure grants.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) reported that, according to officials, the grants will provide rail access to “industrial parks and manufacturing facilities, expansion of on-site storage and loading capacity, purchase of new equipment, and replacement of culverts on a high-density Norfolk Southern line.”

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet distributed the grants through the Kentucky Industrial Access and Safety Improvement or KIASA program.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear (D) said “By modernizing our rail network, we’re ensuring trains are safe and efficient while creating new opportunities for communities across the commonwealth. Every line we improve and every spur we build means safer travel, stronger businesses, and more good paying jobs for Kentuckians, right here at home.”
