VANCOUVER, B.C. - TransLink completed elevator replacements at Nanaimo and 22nd Street SkyTrain stations.

According to the release, these are part of the ExpoLine Elevator Replacement Program, an initiative to replace aging elevators on the Expo Line. Each elevator takes around 4 months to replace. The four-decade-old elevators are replaced with more modern and spacious designs for better accessibility and reliability, says TransLink. This means its passengers will have more room for their mobility devices, luggage, and bikes and that the elevators will be more resilient in cases of inclement weather. Additionally, the newer infrastructure allows for less downtime for maintenance.

Two upgraded elevators opened on December 24 with the next phase of construction beginning this week. Construction at these stations will begin on January 5 at Nanaimo Station followed by 22nd Street station on January 6. TransLink says this station will be closed for four months to allow said work to take place. As of reporting, elevator replacement work is also currently happening at Stadium-Chinatown and Waterfront stations.
